The Saint-Pierre de La Vernière Church, which is located in Étang-du-Nord, is the second largest wooden church in North America. It was built in 1876, but because it was struck by lightning several times, it also had to be rebuilt many times.
The last reconstruction dates back to 1980. Every time, wreck wood is used for the reconstruction, once it is blessed. This church is an integral part of the Islanders' religious heritage and is classified historical monument since 1992. It is the only heritage building on this island.
