The île du Havre Aubert is part of the major islands of the archipelago with its 58—km2 territory, which makes it the largest, but not the most populated of all the islands of the archipelago. There are about 2,375 inhabitants on the island, of which most are French-speaking. This island, which is located at the southern end of the archipelago, conceals a forest – the only one of interest in the archipelago – as well as a historic site.
After the Grand Dérangement, the Acadians first chose this island to settle. They survived thanks to fishing and walrus hunting. Nowadays, there are two municipalities on the île du Havre Aubert.
At the very end of the island stands Havre-Aubert, which is a municipality that is part of the Most beautiful villages of Quebec Association. To the west, tourists can visit the town of Bassin with its panoramic road (chemin Bassin) and its phare de l’Anse-à-la-Cabane.
